Son to Timothy Colfer and Karyn Colfer, Chris was raised in a small farming community in Clovis, California. He was a kid gifted with great imaginations, which he put into good use while at a tender age. Colfer had a deep passion for writing, and he used it to entertain people. His grandmother used to edit his text, advising and encouraging him as he started writing a fairytale-inspired novel, ‘The Land of Stories,’ which was released in 2012.
While in middle school, Colfer was bullied to the point that he chose to be home schooled for a part of his seventh grade and eighth grade. He enrolled at Clovis East High School and joined the debate and speech program, where he won champion titles. He was also an active member in the drama club. As a senior in high school, he wrote and directed ‘Shirley Todd, ‘a play in which all roles were gender-reversed. This experience would later turn him into a star.
Chris Colfer’s first show was an appearance in a community play entitled ‘West Side Story.’ He was also involved in ‘The Sound of Music,’ a production in which he portrayed Kurt von Trapp. At 18 years, he appeared in the short film ‘Russell Fish: The Sausage and Eggs Incident,’ in which he portrayed the main character.
In 2009, Colfer came to international stardom for his role in ‘Glee.’ Initially, he had not auditioned to play the part of Kurt Hummel, but for Artie Abrams, a role that was eventually given to Kevin McHale. Ryan Murphy, the creator of the show, was impressed with Chris so much that he reserved the role of Kurt for him. The series saw him scoop various awards as well as two Emmy Award nominations.
When it comes to Colfer’s writing career, the youngster signed a deal to write two children’s novels with “Little, Brown and Company”, which also saw him increase his net worth. His first book was launched in July 2012 entitled and ‘The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell.’ In only two weeks the book rose to the top of the New York Best Seller list in the category of Children’s Chapter Books. His second book, ‘The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns,’ debuted in August 2013, and rose to second position on the same list. Following the tremendous success of his first two books, Chris signed another contract which saw him release three more books with the publisher: ‘The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning,’ ‘The Land of Stories: Beyond the Kingdoms’ and the ‘Curvy Tree.’ His net worth was growing considerably.
In other works, Colfer produced, starred in, and wrote ‘Struck by Lightning,’ a comedy film. He agreed on a deal with the Disney Channel to adapt a book called ‘The Little Leftover Witch’ for a TV pilot. In 2014, he starred in one episode of ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ in which he played Victoria’s son Tony. He moved to London in 2015, where he starred playing the lead character in ‘Noel Coward,’ a film that is yet to be released.
In his personal life, nothing has been made public of any romantic liaison of Chris Colfer. He is a philanthropist and has supported a number of programs such as The Trevor Project, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Heifer International. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California.

1 | I started sleep shopping online. Yeah, and these really random packages kept showing up on my door step and I'd open them up and would be so random, like, the complete series of The Carol Burnett Show (1967), and this huge like, life-size poster of Lady Gaga - I don't know why my subconscious wanted that poster. |
2 | I liked performing "Push It". We were all pregnant after that number. |
3 | I love me some llamas. |
4 | I'm deaf, I have no voice, I think I lost my virginity out there... |
5 | The only rumor that there has really ever been about me is that I was killed by a fruit truck. |
6 | Glee (2009) is about a high school glee club, like a show choir, that umm, needs a little help. They're horrible. Horrible, like, horrible, hor-ri-ble. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Did I mention they're horrible? |
7 | I could never rap, personally. I can't even wrap presents. |
8 | I have something called the sea monkey method, and what that is; when I was fourteen, I had sea monkeys, and I forgot to feed them. However, they remained alive for seven months. And what they were doing was eating themselves, and living off of their waste. So my method, or, my theory, is that we could come up with some sort of substance that could, be reused, or, eat itself, if you will. Yeah, it would, better the environment and not leave such a carbon footprint. |
9 | Everytime you do a kissing scene, you're probably going to kiss about sixteen o-or eighteen times, because they have to get four, from this angle, four from this angle, four from this angle, four from this angle - I don't know why they're down there - four from this angle...it's never just, once. |
10 | I'm pretty sure I'm going to fall in my GaGa shoes one night on tour and I'm hoping it becomes a Youtube sensation. |
11 | [about Kristin Chenoweth being on Glee (2009)] As soon as she came on, I was like, you know, constantly like, "Oh Hi Kristin! Hi... I'm your biggest fan... We sound exactly alike". |
12 | Oh, I have this feud going with the L.A. Unified School District, because I keep getting these phone calls saying my daughter keeps missing classes, I mean, at all hours of the night, I had like, two calls this morning and I keep calling saying I haven't got a daughter! I'm 19! I mean, the 90's were a blur but I don't think I was impregnating anyone when I was two. I'm gonna find this girl and get her ass to school! |
13 | It doesn't matter how old I get, I always act like an excited five year-old kid with severe ADD and a waddle at Disneyland. |
14 | Nurse Jackie (2009) is my favorite show! Brilliant characters! It makes me laugh so hard, that police come to my door thinking an animal is being abused. |
15 | On getting slushied on Glee (2009): It felt like I was bitch-slapped by an iceberg. |
16 | My life is an awkward visit from the kids table. |

2 | When his Glee (2009) character Kurt Hummel cries on camera, Colfer insists on genuine tears that he himself summons up. |
3 | Favorite movie when he was little was Sister Act (1992). He would put a pillowcase on his head and pretend to be a nun while watching the movie. |
4 | Originally auditioned for the role of "Artie" on Glee (2009), but did not get it. The casting agents were so impressed with his audition that they wrote the role of "Kurt" for him. They named the character "Kurt Hummel", due to Colfer's past role of "Kurt" in "The Sound of Music", when he was fourteen, and because of his rosy cheeks, which reminded them of "Hummel" figurines. |
5 | Inspired the Glee (2009) episode, Glee: The Rocky Horror Glee Show (2010), due to his persistent campaigning to get to sing "The Time Warp". |
6 | Was bullied in high school, but feels that it made him much more quick witted and fast on his feet. |
