Map icons and mission types Halo Infinite guide

May 2024 · 3 minute read

Halo Infinite’s Zeta Halo ring is covered in things to do and icons everywhere to represent everything form main story missions to a variety of other missions and collectibles.

In this Halo Infinite guide, we’ll explain all the types of missions for Master Chief to tackle and show you the map icons for each — FOBs, Mjolnir Armories, Outposts, Propaganda Towers, Spartan Cores, Targets, and Squads.

Halo Infinite map icons

As you explore Zeta Halo and (re)claim Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), you’ll reveal a lot of icons on your map. These correspond to missions (including, but not limited to, main story missions) and collectibles.

When you hover over an icon, you’ll see information about that mission or collectible — like how much Valor you’ll earn for completing it or the reward you’ll get for collecting it. There are a whole lot of these icons on your map, but there’s not a legend for quick reference. So we made the graphic above to help you figure out what you’re looking at.

We didn’t include main story missions here, mostly because they all have different icons. The way to spot main story missions is that they’re always marked with a yellow-gold diamond icon.

Types of Halo Infinite missions

Those map icons refer to seven types of missions and collectibles available to Master Chief on Zeta Halo. Let’s talk about each in turn.

Forward Operating Bases (FOBs)

Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) are basically resupply platforms scattered around Zeta Halo. Here, Master Chief can pick up vehicles, weapons, and Marine reinforcements.

Mjolnir Armory

Mjolnir Armories house collectible cosmetic items for Halo Infinite multiplayer. They look a little like lockers.

Outpost

Outposts are Banished installations on Zeta Halo. They’re basically fortresses that you’ll need to clear out by completing objectives (and by shooting a lot of aliens). Clearing an Outpost will earn you Valor.

Propaganda Tower

Propaganda Towers are small broadcast towers that broadcast the Grunt Communication Officer’s podcasts that you occasionally hear. Destroy them by shooting the exposed, yellow power lines inside and you’ll earn a little Valor.

Spartan Core

Spartan Cores are used to upgrade Master Chief’s equipment like the Grappleshot or Shield Core.

Target

As you explore Zeta Halo, you’ll find 15 Banished Targets. There are important and unique (named) Banished for you to assassinate. Each Target unlocks a unique weapon that you can collect from a FOB.

UNSC Marine Squad

The final type of mission you’ll find are UNSC distress calls from Marine Squads. These are quick skirmishes with Banished forces that have a Squad of Marines pinned down or captured. When you clear out the enemies, you’ll earn some Valor.
